Joomla white page "error"

There is nothing more infuriating than the white screen of death with the word 'error' written int he top left hand corner and nothing else. After all in 2018, it is not beyond the wit of man to actually display a message that explains what the error is so at least you can start looking in the right dorection for a solution.

But fear not, there is an easy way to get your website back.

You will need to log into your hosting control panel and change the PHP vesion for 7.x to 5.6.

This will at least get your front page to load. You can then try and work out which of your components or plgins is causing the error at your own leasure and when sorted, change it back up to PHP 7.x. This will quite likely be resolved by updating your plugins and components.

Joomla Bugs and Fixes

I am posting this blog article to catalogue bugs encountered during Joomla builds to both help myself refer back to them if ever the bug rears it's head and to help out anyone who is having problems with them.

Joomla 3.5 is here

A mail dropped into my inbox this morning informing me that Joomla have released version 3.5. Amongst other new features, Joomla 3.5 supports PHP7 which speeds the site up significantly.

I have upgraded this website with only a coouple of database errors which were fixed easily by using the 'fix database' button.

Other new features drag and drop images if you are using the Tiny MCE editor and the ability to insert modules into articles without using a third party plugin.

Joomla and working with design agencies

Joomla and working with design agenciesI have worked with several design agencies over the last couple of years. Agencies sometimes contact me because their client wants a new design and have decided that they want to continue using Joomla or have checked Joomla out and think it is ideal for their needs.

I will present you with a short case study where I worked with an agency in west London to help them create a new website for a large medical diagnostics company based in Harley Street.

The agency contacted me to ask if I would be interested in helping them with a website as their client had specifically requested Joomla. The agency did not have anyone with the necessary skills on their books so they requested the services of a freelancer such as myself.

If you have any questions, need a quote or what to chat to me about websites, please fill out the form and I will get back to you as soon as possible or call me on:
